John Connell (1940–2009)

To my mind, Connell was one of the most important intellectual artists of the 20th century.

A member of the Santa Fe art community during the 1970s through the 90s, artist John Connell is known for his paper and wire sculptures and unconventional still-life paintings. The artist’s first monograph, recently released by Radius Books, includes studio shots, selections from his sketchbooks, and a full chronology.

This piece, from a private collection, is one of a few remaining sculptures in the original wood, metal, and tar material. It is in excellent condition and a rare find for the collector, as most of the "tar pieces" have been renderd into bronze or destroyed.
