Richard Kurtz

Heartbreak

April 13 - May 31 2014

In a small catalogue published a few years ago, Linda Durham wrote:

…I am drawn to this work—all the jabs at violence, loss, and pain notwithstanding.  I’m drawn to the messages of love, optimism, and hope that cling to the underside of these images of a boxing-gloved man with his emotions and philosophy on display:
“LOVE MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL”, “TEARS FALL FROM BROKEN MINDS”, “STAY ON THE PLANET” …”

— From “HEART BREAK (Human Being)”, Richard Kurtz, Burning Books with Artopia, 2010

Sandra Filippucci

Euphorbia Series

Sept 15 - Oct 13 2013

Sandra Filippucci has subtly and intelligently re-interpreted the Southwestern experience in a sophisticated, original, and technically stunning way. Starting from the abstract impulses of her earlier Joan of Arc imagery, Filippucci has created work that reminds one of the strength and the vulnerability that one finds woven through the high desert landscape. This is cacti as metaphor.” — Linda Durham

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Euphorbia Series explores one subject: cacti. The intention is to express a contemporary interpretation of a subject often portrayed as static and green. Cacti proffer even more relevancy now, today in 2013 namely, that they are survivalists long practiced in deprivation. This work includes large wax encaustic paintings on birch panels with secondary panels, smaller paintings, a print series on Japanese rice paper, and encaustic monotypes on rag paper.

“Cactus V,” wax encaustic on charred birch panels, 34.2″ x 34″ each

Isabelle Rudolphi : "Life Blood"

Aug 29 - Sept 30 2014

Linda Durham and The Wonder Institute are pleased to present "Life Blood",  an exhibition of recent work by mixed media Artist, Isabelle Rudolphi .

"Life Blood" will open on Friday, August 29th, with a private reception from 5 to 7.  It will be on exhibit through the month of September.

To have your name added to the Guest List or to view the work at another time, please contact the Institute to make arrangements:  505 466-4001 or linda@lindadurham.com

Isabelle Rudolphi was born in Duesseldorf, Germany.  She received a degree in Fine Arts from Der Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste in Munich, where she studied under Robin Page of the Fluxus movement.

Rudolphi's work is often reminiscent of vast and wild landscapes, rich with subjective symbology and vibrant patterning, suggestive of unusual journeys and rituals.  Rudolphi  feels her way through personal storytelling as she channels her life into color and texture. Her marks and impulses are applied with paint or cloth or thread or found materials, so describing the media is difficult and best left to the sight of the viewer.

Linda first saw Isabelle’s work at a small, informal Salon presentation last winter: "I have been living with her work all year and I am continually impressed by the “simple complexity” of the work---or do I mean the complex simplicity?  This is mature and highly original work.  I want all my favorite collectors to see it!”
